These unusual stair tables were designed to complement existing
bent plywood chairs in the Washington Alexandria Architecture
Center Stair Theater. These tables are perfect for lectures, presentations, or just lounging around with a coffee and a book.
The curves were created using a vacuum bag and a mold. The
bending plywood was pre-stressed by hand so it wouldn’t crack,
layered together with wood glue, and placed over the mold inside
the bag. As air was sucked out, the bag pulled down over the
wood. This applied even pressure to the plywood and bent it to
the curvature of the mold until the glue dried.
