Aristotle said that, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” In other words, when individual parts are connected together to form one entity, they are worth more than if the parts were alone.
Sum of Its Parts is an outdoor seating solution derived from the relationship between an object and its different unique parts. When all the parts are assembled, they look like a sculptural, colorful cube. When the pieces are separated, they act as a diverse set of colorful seating solutions that can be spread around the field by the users. These seats are meant to be fun and interactive for everyone.
The material of the cushions is foam pieces covered in waterproof, durable fabric that can withstand being outside in the weather and being moved, dragged, and played with.
This project was built for FIGMENT NYC 2019, an art exhibition held on Roosevelt Island in New York City.
